VI. Old Business

a. Safety training.  Bob Nack was not present; however, the training will be in Crandon on May 16th and 17t at the Crandon high school.

b.   Mapping committee.  Glenn Palmbach reported the map will be at the printer’s at noon today, John, Randy and Glenn will review it right after the meeting.

c. Convention report.  Jack reported the convention was somewhat different this year with several breakout sessions.  There were workshops offered all day.  Jack attended the land management workshop, lots of discussion, not any immediate answers.  He met Diane Konkin, the grant person, and was told grants submitted in person with all the facts move up quicker on the list.  John suggested more members attend, not just board members next year.  Roger and Kathy Steinbach were recognized for the State of Wisconsin Outstanding Trail Patrol Ambassadors at the convention.  Congratulations!!  The Potawatomi and Mole Lake are interested in trail ambassador classes.

d. Website development.  Jeff Kramer will discuss options with Robert Jones and get back to us.

e. Snowmobile Council.  John McCulloch attended in Jim’s absence, there is not anything new here.

f. Trail Development Report.  Bushaver Rd. – This is north of Wabeno,on Hwy 32, coming out of the Roberts Lake area will not be necessary to go through Laona. (375 feet) This is on schedule.   Laona to Hwy G – 7.5 miles connecting the north end of the trail to the south end.  Rails have been taken out except for on the blacktop.  Should open this summer. Wolf River trail – Crandon to “DD”.  At the meeting the land owner’s biggest concern was getting across the trail. The signage here will be very important.  Mole Lake trails Pete McGeshick is meeting with the town of Nashville to open the trail on Sand Lake, Woodlawn, and River Ridge Road. Pete is working with the DNR and Forestry Dept. to get an ATV campground on Sand Lake.  A grant should be completed in two months for this.  Grader purchase – This is completed, and Glenn Palmbach hauled it with his trailer.  Trail Maintenance grant – We have $2600.00 in the grant to use before June ’09.  A grant after June will be in effect until June’10.  Jack and Randy feel the club needs a roller to pack down the trail.  Jack is going to an auction on 4/24/09.  A motion was made to purchase a roller with rubber tires not to exceed $1500.00 by Donna Palmbach, seconded by Jeff Kramer.  Motion carried.

b.      ATV raffle tickets John has talked to Jim Hausinger, Jim recommends the club raffle another ATV this year. Motion was made to do a raffle on an ATV by Kathy Steinbach, seconded by Pam McCulloch.  Motion carried.

c.       Send newsletter with raffle tickets.  John has been approached by many people asking what the club does, and events; apparently not everyone has access to a computer.  Donna felt a committee should put together a newsletter listing meeting dates, locations, and other events.  This means all meetings need to planned for the year.   Discussion was held as to whether we could send a newsletter with our club renewal, however, we don’t have annual dues, and each membership is different.  John will work on the letter and contact other members with rough draft.

d.      Parade rides.  John is encouraging all club members to be involved in parade rides, with a brat fry after.  He would like to see 40 machines in these parades; we have decorations from last year.  The Crandon parade being the most important, possibly making a float for the club.  Motion was made to spend $200.00 purchase candy for parades by Don Kostka, seconded by Jeff Kramer.  Motion carried.

e.       Club ride dates.  The next meeting will be May 9th in Hiles with a ride to follow.  The meeting will be at the town hall at 9:00 a.m.  Hiles is on Hwy 32 15 miles north of Crandon.  The Little Pine Hotel will host a cookout after the ride with everything furnished.  Donations will be taken for the cookout.  Thank you Dale!  The town roads in Hiles are all ATV as well, the only problem is crossing 32, and Steve will be assisting the club with this.

f.       Donation for K-9.  A motion was made to donate $500.00 for the K-9 dog in Wabeno by Jerry Rivest, seconded by Jeff Kramer.  Motion carried. .

c. Trail Development Update  Jack attended a meeting 2/18/09 with the Mole Lake Tribe, meeting went well, there are some hang-ups with Nashville, however, Pete McGeshick will try to handle this.

d.  Trail Maintenance Update -  Jack did go out with Randy Werth and ran the grader that is for sale.  He reported it is in excellent condition for the year of this equipment.  The owner will not take less than $3500.00; it may need minor repairs, such as spark plugs.  Jack does have a source for Allis Chambers’s parts.  It has a 10 foot blade that will work well for our purposes.  Randy and John attended meetings with the Forestry Dept. and Highway Dept. and were able to secure 13 miles of the Nicolet Trail for maintenance.  This is from Hwy G north to the county line.  Glenn Palmbach has offered use of his Trailer to haul the grader.

e.  Website Development – Link Exchange  Jeff Kramer, our webmaster, was approached by a company, Camper ATV and founder of www.campingATV.com  She would like us to link her site to our website and vice versus.  The person who developed our website responded that we use caution before doing this, we would need to know how many pixels it would use, etc.  Jeff was not at the meeting, Jeannie read the e-mails concerning this, and it was decided the website committee should investigate further and get back to the club.

VI.  New Business

a.       Terry Coplien WATVA   Terry is the regional coordinator for the northeast area of the state.  Terry was quick to compliment the club on the progress we have had in the few years. He brought the club up to speed on the following:

1.       Surveys for the side by sides.  Five counties have been involved in the pilot trial of side by sides; this will end 11/09.  It seems to be going well without negative feedback.  The use of these will be by county, funding may be available for maintaining these trails.  There is a survey for this, and we will get these out to club members.

2.      Survey for strengthening of OWI penalties for snowmobiles, ATV’s and boating.   There will be a discussion of this at the WATVA convention in April.

3.      Forest Service input letter – The Forestry service has not been receiving comments concerning the new ATV trail and ATV route on National Forest land in northern Forest County, the vicinity of Alvin.  Donna Palmbach volunteered to e-mail this survey to the club’s members with a letter explaining the survey.

4.      The DNR Safety Class This class has changed drastically; it is based on lesson plans.

Thank you Terry for all your help and information, and visiting us!!!

V. Old Business

a.  Membership report- Will be updated next meeting..

b.   Mapping Update  Jim Hausinger reported he met with Melinda (Chamber) and Beth.  This should be ready to go in two weeks.  Jack, John and possibly Glenn will go to final meeting as Jim Hausinger will be out of state until May. This should be ready to distribute in April.

c. Meeting with Forestry Services   Jack met with Evan Miller, apparently the Nicolet trail to Blackwell did not go as planned, 200 feet to be reconstructed this spring. By summer this should be on target.  Joint trails are not eligible for funding, if they are not strictly ATV trails, they are not eligible.  The law would have to be changed.  The new ranger appears to be a good advocate for ATV’s.  There will be another meeting in April.  The Nicolet trail in Townsend will open in June.

d.  Snowmobile-ATV Council Meeting Update  Jim Hausinger reported this meeting was centered on snowmobiling, however, the Wolf River State Trail grant needs to be in 4/15/09.  The DNR has to sign off on this and they have had it for some time.  Jack will follow up on this.  Laona School Forest trail could be funded if part of it is made into a parking spot.

e.  Trail Maintenance  There is a meeting Monday evening and the club is on the agenda for this. The grader is still available and Jack feels we could get it for around $3000.00.  He feels this is a good opportunity for the club, may be able to make some money as well as maintaining the trails better.  It would be volunteer help to run this grader.  Diane Hausinger mentioned we may have other options, such as contracting this out. The trails would have to be graded three times annually.  Randy Werth felt we have a longer season to recoup our initial investment and has offered to be the ATV Maintenance Coordinator for our club.   A motion was made to buy the grader if it is in good condition, not to exceed $3500.00, Jack, Randy, and John to approve, by Glenn Palmbach, seconded by Jack Neddo.  Motion carried with one nay vote.

VI.  New Business

a.       Appointment of Delegates to attend state WATVA Convention  A motion was made for the club to send three delegates to the convention April 4,5,& 6th, this entails paying one nights’ lodging and meals by Diane Hausinger, seconded by Donna Palmbach.  Motion carried.    Jack expressed a need for business cards for the officers, Jeannie will order from Pioneer Printing.

e.       Thank You   Jerry Meyers sent a thank you to the club for sending a memorial for his wife, Sharon.  A get-well card was passed around to sign for Bob May, who was injured in an automobile accident.

f.       Future meeting locations. Jack had a request for a meeting during the week, and in the evening.

c.       Donation to the “Mitten Tree”of Forest County   Jeannie Weyers reported the Mitten Tree of Forest County had many names left of children in the area who still needed gifts to make their Christmas special.  It was decided the club would donate $400.00 to the cause to make sure all the names had been taken.  Next year we will challenge other clubs to meet our donations.  Thanks so much to all!!  You are very special people.
